About Vishal Kumar
I’m a senior software engineer in Bengaluru, working across product engineering, backend systems, and platform reliability. My strongest work sits where product complexity and production scale meet.
What I build
I turn ambiguous operational problems into systems that teams can understand, operate, and trust. At Atlan, I built Blackbird, a declarative configuration-management system in Go with Temporal-powered drift detection and idempotent remediation across 800–1,000 customer tenant clusters. It became the configuration source of truth for 20–30 services and eliminated configuration-drift P0 incidents.
I also migrated more than 600 production tenants to CloudNativePG with zero data loss and zero downtime, helped productionize Temporal for durable workflows, and owned production systems spanning PostgreSQL, Redis, Kong, Kubernetes, and internal platform services.
How I got here
Before Atlan, I worked at OpeninApp on a redirection platform handling 1–5 million daily hits. I built an AWS analytics pipeline using Kinesis Firehose, S3 Parquet, Glue, and Athena to remove reporting pressure from the transactional database. Earlier, I was the first engineer at Relecture, where I took an EdTech product from zero to production, reduced infrastructure costs by 80%, and helped grow the engineering team from one person to three.
Working with me
I am most useful on work that demands end-to-end ownership, careful technical judgment, and reliable delivery: customer-facing products, TypeScript or Go backends, distributed workflows, multi-tenant SaaS, platform engineering, and production reliability. I use AI-assisted development heavily, while keeping verification, observability, and operational safety at the center of the work.
